In 2020, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge was released as a direct-to-video animated film. In 1995, the story was adapted as a live-action film, followed by a sequel, a couple of animated films, and an R-rated reboot released earlier this year in theaters and on HBO Max. The original video game launched in 1992 and has sold more than 49 million copies throughout several games and expansions.
